I was a new wife planning to surprise my husband with a nice silk chocolate pie for his birthday. It was the first time I was baking for him and only the second week of my married life.
I. Cannot. Mess. This. Up.
My husband leaves for work in the morning, and I'm ready to go. I've got all day to figure out how to make his favorite pie. I can do this. I've got the recipe, I've got the ingredients, I've got the dishes and utensils. What could go wrong?
Other than me.
I take the pre-made pie crust out of the box and put it into the pie plate to bake. Twenty minutes later, the bottom is puffed up beyond saving, the edges are hopelessly folded over, and it looks nothing like the pie I wanted.
I. Cannot. Mess. This. Up.
I keep going.
The chocolate filling is over-mixed, the eggs over-beaten, and it still looks absolutely nothing like a silk chocolate pie.
I. Have. Failed.
But at least my husband is nice enough to say it tastes good.
